The title was good, no? Alright alright, as I sit here trying to blog about how excited I am about the Oscar’s, how intrigued I am over my latest guy questions (as always, I have many), and my thoughts on good songs for Sundays, I find it extremely difficult to focus because of everything happening over in Ukraine and Russia.
Everyone has been telling me to write about more emotionally and politically taxing subjects because “that’s where I really show who I am” and “it means so much more” and “that’s where my passions lie,” yadda yadda. Yeah sure, but I’m still not ready to do that on here. Maybe one day, but today is not that day. (At least I don’t think today is that day, we’ll see by the time I’m done writing this.)
I do want to stress, however, how important it is to educate yourself on what’s going on. If I’m speaking gibberish to you right now, I think it is vital for you to go online and put in a little time via MULTIPLE news outlets. Politics is a sticky and often confusing subject, but it’s so important to follow and understand the events that are taking place here in the US and especially (!!!) abroad. Like, trust me I would rather be making jokes about Leonardo DiCaprio never winning an Academy Award with you guys, but the fact that a ton of my friends have no idea what’s happening is both troubling and scary. Like, really scary. And I know they’re not the only ones who aren’t paying attention.
This whole post started because someone said to me today, “Yeah I don’t really care what happens over there, I only care if people are causing trouble here in The States.” Which I thought was just so fundamentally stupid until I realized that a lot of Americans have that mentality. And it’s all going to end here! Today! On OneMoreThingKP.com!
Ok I’m kidding. But how about I promise not to give any lectures like this again and you do a little bit of research? I think that sounds insanely fair. Don’t you think that you’ll feel like a much more powerful and insightful person if you know what’s going on in the world? We both know that the answer to that is simple: you will. I keep typing (and deleting) bad jokes to lighten this up a little bit more, but the truth is that this is real life and it’s scary! God, I can never talk about politics without getting so serious, but that’s reality. And I know that whether you know very little about the events in Ukraine over the past few months, or you literally know nothing at all, it can be overwhelming to try to find more information. But it doesn’t have to be that hard! Besides the internet, tv, newspapers, etc., you can look to family and friends (me!) if you need a little help.
Yeah RIGHT if you think I’m going to share my thoughts and feelings on what is happening over there or even over in Washington, here on my happy little blog. But if you have any kind of opinion after investigating a little bit, send me a message and let’s talk. If you already know what’s going on, thank God for you.
As for the overlooked blog topics:
- The Academy Awards are on at 8:30EST so watch because–hello it’s the Oscars and Ellen DeGeneres is hosting–and I also have a good feeling that Angelina is going to have a particularly good night, sartorially speaking.
- Guys are still as confusing and interesting as they were the last time I posted about them. And funny. Sometimes. Ugh.
- As for Sunday songs, OneRepublic’s acoustic version of If I Lose Myself is really great to put on to zen out to this Sunday. Or to add to your bath playlist for when you have your hydration night after the awards tonight! Or to play 700 times in a row while blogging. The choice is yours.
