First of all do you know how LONG it took me to make the picture for this? I can’t even begin to tell you because I will get so mad and overheat. Not doing it. Here we go.
Halloween Movie Playoffs
If you’re a Packer fan, and you should be, the game last Sunday was irregularly brutal to watch. We pulled out a win against the Browns, but one of our tight ends, Jermichael Finley (who I constantly criticize but has proved vital for our injury cursed team this season) left the field on a gurney and was sent to ICU from a really hard shoulder hit to the neck.
I couldn’t write with my usual hilarious wit and clever puns (*smirk*) when something so serious had happened, so I decided to incorporate a little football into my post, in his honor.
Besides it being football season, it is Halloween and that means lots of candy, inappropriately unflattering costumes, and especially Halloween movies. There are so many to watch and not enough time for most of us to watch them all. So with Finley in mind, I created a Halloween Movie Playoff bracket (pictured below), which I sent to a ton of my friends and family earlier this week in the hopes that they (as well as I) could narrow my list down to a favorite Halloween movie. I ended up with approximately 71 brackets which is INCREDIBLE so thank you everyone!
It was really hard to generate a good list because there are so many scary movies and I couldn’t have a one hundred “team” bracket, so to speak. So I chose the movies I wanted using a complicated algorithm incorporating intensity of horror, relation to Halloween, and the all important foundation that it’s my bracket and I’ll choose what I want! With that I made four loose divisions: Childhood Halloween, Classic Horror, Halloween Favorites and Moderately Scary/Suspenseful.
It can be argued that the list is missing many of the great scary movies, and it is, but I tried to stick to either Halloween movies or movies that are classically associated with Halloween, since that was what this bracket was about! With that I give you, my 2013 Halloween Movie Playoffs!
Are you guys serious with eliminating Halloweentown right off the bat? I am so disgusted that I almost fixed the outcome, but that would not be very ethical of me and I am so ethical that it’s unreal so…
THE SECOND ROUND
And the winner is?
I honestly could not believe how many people had The Silence of the Lambs as their champion. Here’s what some people had to say:
“Silence of the Lambs is by far the best scary movie of all time. The acting is a solid ‘A’. The end scene where Clarice makes it to Buffalo Bill’s house and the power goes out…that is the most clever and thrilling scene I have ever seen.” -Billy Herrick
“Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins are one of the best duos in recent memory. Silence of the Lambs would definitely be ranked in my top ten movies of all time!” -Jake Mahnke
“I love Hannibal Lecter! He is my favorite villain of all time!” -Koda Wright
It wasn’t the way my bracket played out, but it was so interesting to see which movies people chose and why they chose them. For my next playoff tournament, and there will be a next playoff tournament because of all the enthusiasm surrounding this, I will make a few changes. But I had so much fun with this and hope you did, too! What do you think of the results? Tell me!
I had the intent of posting this before the game against the Vikings tonight, but since I didn’t get to in time, I hope you’ve been cheering for the Packers! If you’re not a football fan, I hope this has you pumped and ready to watch one of the movies on this list! I might go through all of my brackets and choose a winner to receive a large amount of oreo balls, but until then…
F-ck you, Jennings.
